Knee Pain Q & A

What causes knee pain?

When a patient has knee pain, they may not be able to walk long distances, bend, or even bear weight on the knee.
This type of pain can result from many different causes, including:

  • Torn cartilage
  • Inflammation of the tendon
  • Inflammation in the knee joint
  • Fractures
  • Injuries to the anterior cruciate ligament
  • Dislocations
  • An altered gait
  • Arthritis.

What types of knee pain treatments are available?

The type of knee pain treatment that will be most effective depends on the cause of the patient’s pain. At Better Body Solutions, a physician may treat knee pain with massage therapy, chiropractic care, and/or physical therapy. Each type of therapy serves a different purpose, so one or more of these therapies may be recommended to the same patient.

Can patients recover completely?

Some patients with knee pain will be able to recover completely with the right treatment. For example, patients with minor injuries to the knee are often able to regain their normal function and eliminate any associated pain. Other causes of knee pain, such as arthritis, are chronic and may continue even after treatment. However, the right treatment will help the patient maintain as much function as possible while also minimizing pain.

How can patients alleviate knee pain at home?

Patients who are experiencing knee pain at home can bring down inflammation by applying ice or taking anti-inflammatory medications. Depending on the cause of the pain, patients may also benefit from rest or at-home exercises and support braces. Our physicians can help patients determine which at-home treatments are most appropriate.

How does Better Body Solutions approach knee pain treatment?

When a patient comes in with knee pain, our physicians will begin by assessing the patient’s condition to determine the cause of the pain. The physician will then develop an individualized treatment plan based on this condition.
